To say I have a sweet tooth would be an understatement. I have a whole mouth full of sweet teeth! And when summer rolls around, my sweet teeth want ice cream. Over the years I've become a Ben & Jerry's girl - so many wonderful flavors, no icky additives that give me migraines, and those awesome little pint containers that you only need two or three sittings to finish before you can move on to another flavor (OK, sometimes one sitting if it's been a bad day and I need comforting!).
The bummer about ice cream pints, though, is that they're COLD! To enjoy the ice cream, you have to endure frozen fingers. Well, not anymore, you don't! A man after my own heart, Drew Emborsky (The Crochet Dude) designed a pattern for a little sweater to put on your ice cream pint so you can hold on without freezing your fingers. Brilliant! He calls it a sleeve, but as much as I normally hate the term "cozy" I think this warrants it. I've whipped up two of these so far, one each for me and the hubby. Mine's on the left, modeled by a pint of Cherry Garcia; Robert's is modeled by a pint of Strawberry Cheesecake. The pattern is simple and quick, but uses some really neat textural stitches (fpdc, bpdc, and a simple bobble, for the crocheters reading this!). The stitches would probably pop a lot more in a solid color yarn, but I had scraps of these ombres left over. They still look awesome! And most importantly, they do the job so you can have ice cream without the frostbite. Made from Sugar 'n' Cream worsted weight cotton yarn in Strawberry (mine) and Faded Denim (Robert's) using a size I Boye aluminum hook. Finished size - pint size! Pattern is here: [link] |
