Description

I worked for 10 years as a meteorologist before getting into the fantasy gaming business, so you might say I know a thing or two about weather. Those of you who've watched me for a while probably know that it takes something REALLY amazing weather-wise to get me excited. Most of the time, if most people are going on and on about how they've "never seen a storm like this!" or "it's never been this bad!" or any other wild reaction, I just shrug my shoulders. I'm in the mindset of, it's all happened before, and it will all happen again.

This snowstorm we just had, though... this was really something! And a record-breaker to boot! Over a three day period we received 25.4 inches of snow here in Great Falls. Yes kids, over two feet of snow. That's the most we've ever received in a three-day period (as long as records have been kept, anyway!). We also broke the all-time two-day snowfall record, and almost broke the all-time one-day snowfall record (16.1 inches fell yesterday alone - the record was 16.5 inches in one day). And we didn't get the worst of it. Areas along the Rocky Mountains received upwards of FOUR FEET of snow, and surely even much more in the mountains.

Snow this late in the season in Montana is not unusual - my regular watchers may remember that I posted a journal last June about waking up to about 6 inches of snow. But this impressed even me, and it takes some serious weather to impress me!

I went out to shovel today and snapped a few shots to document the event. This is my last shot - a sweet little icicle hanging from our garage roof. It's already melting away...
